After moving across the country to begin his apprenticeship in the lift industry, Max has completed his training and achieved a Distinction in his End-Point Assessment with LEIA Assessment.
Starting his apprenticeship meant a significant change for Max, as he moved from a small seaside town to a busy city and began learning about the wide variety of equipment, technical knowledge and practical skills involved in the lift industry.
“From day one, I knew it was going to be a challenge due to the huge variety of equipment and skills involved within the lift industry,” Max explains. “Now that I have completed my apprenticeship, I have come to realise that this variety and the challenges that come with it are a big part of what makes the job so interesting.”
Building practical and technical knowledge
Throughout his apprenticeship, Max was able to learn from experienced engineers and colleagues, developing his practical skills alongside his technical knowledge.
“My apprenticeship journey has been an extremely positive experience. I have been fortunate to work alongside very supportive colleagues who have always been willing to share their knowledge and experience with me.
“Working with different engineers has allowed me to learn from their individual experiences and develop my own knowledge and practical skills.”
His apprenticeship combined several different elements, including completing his NVQ, distance learning through the University of Northampton and LEIA modules.
Max says each played an important part in helping him develop the practical and theoretical knowledge required for a career in the industry.
Achieving a Distinction
Following completion of his NVQ and distance learning, Max progressed to his End-Point Assessment (EPA).
“I was initially nervous about this stage, but the process was actually very straightforward. LEIA provided helpful information for both myself and my employer, and each stage of the assessment was clearly explained. I was delighted when I found out that I had achieved a Distinction, as it felt like the years of hard work throughout my apprenticeship had paid off.”
Looking to the future
With his apprenticeship successfully completed, Max is now gaining further experience across servicing and major repairs, giving him the opportunity to continue expanding his knowledge of different equipment.
His longer-term ambition is to become multi-skilled by developing his knowledge and qualifications in escalators as well as lifts. He would also like the opportunity to travel and work abroad during his career.
“Completing my apprenticeship has given me a strong foundation, but I also recognise that there is always more to learn in this industry,” he says.
“I am looking forward to continuing to build my experience, take on new challenges and develop throughout my career.”
